ALUMNI 2018

Charles Ngoma KaMphahlele

BIOGRAPHY

Charles Ngoma KaMphahlele was born in Jabulani, Soweto in 1981 and lives in Rondebult, east of Johannesburg. He studied the Advanced Programme in Photography in 2018 and completed the Foundation Course and Intermediate Courses at the Market Photo Workshop in 2017. His interest in photography was inspired by local photographers, known as cameramen and one who stood out and was inspirational for him was Bhut’Sipho. The process and the end product of photography caught his technically curious young mind. Currently, he explores his photographic work using studio and street photography approaches. Both these modes assist in making his voice in authoring to be audible and precise. Some of the photographers and artists that inspire his work include Santu Mofokeng, David Goldblatt, Khalil Nemmaoui and Guy Tillim. Through his photographic dialogue, he wants to raise awareness concerning social issues affecting his community, as well as follow up on dialogues that may be used to improve his community.
