ABOUT

The Ntethelelo Foundation in partnership with the Market Photo Workshop, conducted the Ntethelelo Foundation Images and Mobile Journalism Project. The participants were trained how to use mobile phone apps and cameras as a journalistic tool.

Mobile journalism is gaining traction in news rooms and is changing perspectives on the delivery and accessibility of news. It’s rapid, instant and mobile. Mobile Journalism, or MoJo, is now a popular course offered to trained journalists to prepare them for adaptation to new technologies in news reporting. The Ntethelelo Foundation Images and Mobile Journalism focused on the use of smart mobile phones, and trained the participants in visual literacy, technical operation, storytelling and producing, and the safety and ethics of mobile journalism.

Roses and Poses_ a confidence building photography project for girls.

Girls in disenfranchised areas have been seen to struggle with confidence due to their environment and the people in their lives. With a rise in drug and alcohol abuse, prostitution and teenage pregnancy more young girls are falling prey to these social ills. This project is structured to allow girls to express themselves and gain confidence through using photography as a tool. Through photography they can engage with their environment and build their confidence through working with their community. With the programs planned within the workshop, girls will learn alternate ways to finding themselves and learning a new skill.
