Tumisho Ramokonyanana

BIOGRAPHY

Tumisho Ramokonyanana, who prefers to go by Mr HTL, is a South African photographer. He was born and raised in the small township of Lebowakgomo in Limpopo. He fell in love with photography in his matric year (2015) after his sister gave him his first camera. He finished his matric and started teaching himself how to use the camera in that same year.

In 2017 Tumisho came to Johannesburg and started showing interest in graphic design, he understood that it was important for him to know the elements of design. He wanted to be familiar with software used in graphic design as he uses them often in his photographic practice.

In 2019 Tumisho moved to Tembisa and started doing more work in events photography, wedding photography, and portraiture. He noticed that there were plenty of stories in the township he stayed in and felt the need to tell them. That is when he realised that he needed to learn how to tell these stories effectively. In 2021 he then made a decision to enrol at Market Photo Workshop for their Advanced Programme in Photography.

One of the projects Tumisho worked on at Market Photo Workshop is focused on an appreciation for all the fathers that are present in their children's lives, inspired by the fact that he was raised by a present father. He wishes to challenge stereotypes around absent fathers within the black community with his photography. Tumisho aims to educate and influence absent fathers with in his community around this issue of the importance of parenting and being present in their children's lives.
