Melusi Masike

BIOGRAPHY

Melusi Masike is a creative story-teller, who uses photography as a medium to tell his stories. He stays in Daveyton, Ekhurhuleni, which is where most of his practices have developed.

Melusi’s photography was influenced by an entrepreneurship program he attended at Morena Ke Lethabo Training Centre where he learned about conducting his practice as a business. In 2018 he attended a basic to intermediate photography programme, in Kwa-Thema. The classes were facilitated by Raymond Mokoena (Market Photo Workshop alumni) in association with Springs Art Gallery. In 2021 he enrolled in the Advanced Programme in Photography (APP) at the Market Photo Workshop, Johannesburg. In this program they deal in depth with the practices of photography as medium and how to build a body of work as well as preparing you for commercial practices.

In 2019 he participated in a group exhibition at Springs Art Gallery celebrating the life and legacy of Chris Hani, and in 2020 he also participated in another group exhibition at Springs Art gallery hosted by East fashion Week. His work is influenced and driven by our South African and African heritage, his aim is to teach the world about our customs and to celebrate cultural diversity.
