Grace Ekpu

a published documentary photographer living in Lagos, Nigeria and a Senior Journalist with The BBC

She holds a Master of Science degree in Media Management from The University of Glasgow, United Kingdom.  In 2018, she participated in the inaugural GT Bank’s “Days of Dorcas” female photographer’s workshop.

She was the winner of the Fashola Photography Competition in 2018. In the same year, she was commissioned by the New York Times to document the #Thisis18 project in Lagos, Nigeria and her work ‘The passing of time’ was exhibited at the Lagos Photo Festival in the same year. In 2019 she was nominated for the annual Canon Storytelling Master Class (Nigeria). In the same year, she got a scholarship to attend the annual Foundry Photojournalism Workshop in Kigali, Rwanda.

Akinbo exhibited alongside other photographers at the 25th Bamako Encounters – OFF exhibition under the Nlele Institute in 2019. In 2020, she was nominated for the Joop Swart Masterclass, World Press Photo. Akinbo is a mentee at the Nlele Institute, a member of the African Photojournalism Database and a member of the 1884 collective.
