Cebisile Mbonani

Cebisile Mbonani was born in Soweto in 1990. After her matric year, she took a gap year in 2008 where she spent her time with film and music video directors. This is when her influenced and love for storytelling began.

In 2011 she obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Motion Picture majoring in Television Production. After six years of spending time in an edit suite exposed to 8 to 12 hours of footage that needed to be cut down to 24-minutes episode, her passion for telling stories and finding new ways to tell them increased. As a result, she decided to go back to school full time, and enrolled in the Market Photo Workshop’s Photojournalism and Documentary Photography Programme. Her decision to go to photojournalism route comes from her desire to find new ways to tell stories that are close to her heart and also to find new direction on how to tell impactful stories that can change and shape society. She plans to use photography as a stepping-stone to tell stories of black women, tell those stories both in film and photography.
