Kampala Road Unveiled is a visual journey chronicling the transformation of Kampala Road, the main street of Uganda’s capital, Kampala, spanning six decades. The project pairs archival photos from the mid-20th century with contemporary shots of the same locations, creating poignant diptychs that vividly portray the evolution of public spaces. From bustling traffic to fenced-off areas and leisurely strolls, the visuals highlight the intersection of historical legacy and progressive urbanization, encapsulating the community’s spirit and the city’s resilience.
Through carefully curated diptychs, the project captures the profound changes in architecture, infrastructure, and daily rhythm of life, revealing the layers of history woven into Kampala Road’s cityscape. Each photograph serves as a portal through time, traversing from the colonial era to post-independence vibrancy. “Metamorphosis” not only serves as a historical document but also embarks on an artistic exploration, celebrating the symbiotic relationship between the city and its people.
