Born in Limpopo, Bavaria, Ga- Mathapo and raised in Seshego; Mashlene Matlwa is a poet, writer, poetry performance artist and literary advocate.

Started writing and performing poetry when she was 14 years old, although she took a long break from performing to work on writing and other aspects, she has said, numerous times that she feels best when on stage.
