Michael Mokobo Phasha
BIOGRAPHY
Michael Mokobo Phasha is a photojournalist and documentary photographer based in Johannesburg, South Africa. His journey began when he was mentored by Prelena Soma Owen, Wildlife Photographer and National Conservationist in 2016. Phasha went on to train at the Market Photo Workshop in Johannesburg. Phasha completed the Foundation Course in 2017, Intermediate Course in 2018, and finally the Photojournalism and Documentary Photography Programme in 2019. Phasha interned at the Beeld newspaper in 2019. His photographs from the memorial service of the late Professor Kgositsile Keorapetse were featured in Creative Feel Magazine (Jan\Feb, 2018). Phasha has been freelancing as an event photographer since 2017 for organizations such as the Market Theatre Foundation. Phasha feels that; “photography is not only about making beautiful images but to convey a message through those images. It is not the camera that sees an image, it is me who sees the image first and I decide how I am going to frame my composition to ultimately tell a story with an image.”
