Rhaeezah David, also known as Ázula Kai, is a Muslim transwoman living in a stereotypical community that pushes prejudice and discrimination against transgender people. Rhaeezah hopes to break the stereotypes through her artistic work and by speaking out about her experiences, particularly the transphobia and negative stereotypes about transgender people within her own faith. She hopes to use photography, theatre and writing to challenge society’s expectations of how she should be. Rhaeezah believes that Riverlea can be a community of hope, warmth and courage, in which transgender experiences and issues can be an important aspect of the Riverlea community belonging.
