Tandokazi Qomfo

The artist Tandokazi Qomfo, currently resides in Newtown, Johannesburg where she is enrolled at The Market Photo Workshop for the Photojournalism and Documentary Programme.

From a very young age, Qomfo had possessed a trustworthy, patient demeanour and the ability to listen to everyone without any judgement. This can be seen as an advantage to her photographic career, covering social issues, rape, women and child abuse, poverty, drug addiction, prostitution and more so; the stigma about how dark and deadly townships are.

Her passion and drive come from the constant urge for development, for both her career and the communities in which she takes interest in photographing and telling stories about. She wants to exist in the uncomfortable spaces she has never for a day imagined herself she would ever be in.
