Thembinkosi Hlatshwayo born in Soweto in 1993 and lives in Lawley. Hlatshwayo was introduced to Photography at the Vaal University of Technology, 2013. In the year 2014, numerous circumstances piloted him to discontinue his tertiary education. He joined the Of Soul and Joy Photography Initiative in 2016, where he created a body of work that was subsequently part of a group exhibition at Photo Fest, Thokoza and was also exhibited at Art Africa Fair in Cape Town, 2017. In the same year, he was part of a Photo Folio Review in the Arles Photo Fest, France, and was part of Mathieu Assellin’s Spring Photography Workshop. He enrolled and completed the Advanced Programme in Photography at the Market Photo Workshop 2018 and is the 2018 Tierney Fellow for the institution. Having been raised in a home with a tavern, his current work focuses on the impact of the space on himself and his family.
