Renata Larroyd was born in Florianópolis, Brazil. After working in the digital marketing field for a number of years, she started her career as a lifestyle and documentary photographer when she was 26. At that time, she pursued a degree in photography in Belo Horizonte, Brazil - all the while working as a commercial photographer, documenting the daily lives of Brazilian families and capturing a number of natural births on camera. In 2018, she joined the Photojournalism and Documentary Photography Programme at the Market Photo Workshop in Johannesburg, South Africa - in order to dedicate herself solely to photojournalism, focusing on social issues in Africa related to education, gender and local subcultures.
