This work focuses on the aspect of how some people’s trash can turn into gold, looking at how far these guys come from just to open and close our bins. I have chosen this concept because I was always exposed to township cleaners but didn’t pay much attention to it. Growing up we used to see a van exchanging snacks for empty bottles and we used to call it Banana Kar. These men were doing recycling similar to the township cleaners (but without giving kids snacks) and I found that very interesting for me. I wish to also show the government of Lesotho how their people are living in SA. What is it that they have to do to support their families back in Lesotho due to unemployment? Do these people have a voice? I don’t think that’s what one dreams of doing with their lives but because they need to eat they will do anything in SA?
